Persija Jakarta’s coach, Thomas Doll, has expressed doubt regarding the team’s prospects of winning the League 1 2022-2023. In fact, he went so far as to dismiss the notion of the Macan Kemayoran contending for the title as nothing more than a farce.
At present, Persija occupies the third position in the rankings, having accumulated 51 points from 28 matches. This places them 14 points behind PSM Makassar, who currently holds the top spot in the League 1 2022-2023 standings after 29 matches.
Regrettably, the team under the leadership of Andritany Ardhiyasa has been mired in inconsistency. Most recently, they suffered a 0-2 defeat to Persik Kediri at the Brawijaya Stadium on Sunday (3/12/2023).
The string of unfavorable results, including the recent match against Persik Kediri, has made it challenging for Persija to keep pace with PSM. When asked about their championship aspirations, Doll could only respond with laughter.
“It’s akin to a jest, I cannot dignify such a query given the current state of affairs,” Doll remarked with a chuckle during a press conference on Monday (3/13/2023).
“Take heed of PSM Makassar’s standing in the rankings. We must exercise caution in our away games, much like the one against Borneo. In light of our current performance, it would be imprudent to entertain thoughts of clinching the league title,” the German coach added.
In summation, it is evident that coach Thomas Doll harbors minimal optimism regarding Persija Jakarta’s chances in the League 1 2022-2023. Their unreliability and lackluster performance have led him to believe that it would be unrealistic to consider them serious contenders for the title. Only time will reveal whether they can reverse their fortunes and prove him mistaken.
