The Persija Jakarta Club has released an official statement regarding the designation of Bambang Pamungkas, one of its celebrated figures, as the new manager of the team. The announcement was delivered during a press conference convened at the Elite Club Epicentrum in Jakarta on Friday, January 17th.
At the press conference, Persija President Muhammad Prapanca presented Bambang as the club’s new manager, alongside the introduction of the new head coach, Sergio Farias. The club has set its sights on clinching the League 1 championship under the stewardship of Bambang Pamungkas for the 2020 season.
In his acceptance speech, Bambang, affectionately known as Bepe, expressed his conviction in contributing to the club to the best of his abilities, despite his relative novelty in managerial responsibilities. He acknowledged the transition from being on the field as a player to managing the team off the field and expressed his familiarity with the club’s operations while aiming to facilitate the coach’s integration into the team.
Bambang Pamungkas also stressed his intention to focus solely on technical matters off the pitch in his capacity as the team manager, affirming that he will not intervene in the decisions made by coach Sergio Farias.
Speculation had been circulating for several days prior to the announcement regarding Bambang Pamungkas assuming the role of team manager following his retirement as a footballer in the previous season. These speculations gained credence when Bambang was sighted wearing formal attire at the Persija training site.
On the same day as Bambang’s appointment, the former manager of Persija, First Marshal Ardhi Tjahjoko, announced his resignation from the position, paving the way for Bambang’s new role within the club.
Despite initial reservations, Bambang ultimately embraced the managerial role, citing a profound connection and a shared ambition with Persija Jakarta as his primary motivations. He expressed eagerness to assume the managerial position to aid the team in attaining its lofty objectives for the upcoming season.
The appointment of Bambang Pamungkas as the new team manager has garnered considerable attention from fans and the football community, with many expressing their support for the club’s decision. With Bambang’s experience and dedication to Persija Jakarta, the club anticipates a successful and promising season under his leadership.
