The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), as represented by Executive Committee Member Arya Sinulingga, has addressed the recent FIFA sanctions imposed on five Indonesian clubs for the illegal registration of players.
Arya stated that no official report regarding the punishment of the five clubs, namely Persiwa Wamena, Persija Jakarta, Persikab Bandung Regency, Persiraja Banda Aceh, and Sada North Sumatra FC, has been received by PSSI. Without the formal reports from the clubs involved, detailed comments on the matter cannot be made.
The sanctions levied by FIFA take the form of a player registration ban, preventing the clubs from registering any new players acquired through the transfer market. As a result, these newly recruited players are unable to participate in matches for the affected clubs.
The reasons for the imposition of the player registration bans vary, including violations of transfer regulations or failure to settle transfer debts owed to other clubs. In some instances, the ban can be lifted upon the payment of outstanding debts.
Notably, the majority of the clubs have been penalized this year, with the exception of those who have previously faced sanctions since May 12, 2022. Furthermore, the start date for the player registration bans differs, with Persija and Persiraja beginning on January 26, 2024, while Persikab and Sada North Sumatra started on February 26, 2024.
The duration of the sanctions also varies, with Persija, Persikab, Persiraja, and Sada North Sumatra facing a three-registration-period ban, while Persiwa’s penalty will remain in place until FIFA decides to overturn it.
Typically, these penalties span two or three transfer windows following the club’s infringement of transfer regulations or failure to settle transfer debts.
It is imperative for PSSI to receive and review the official reports from the clubs involved in order to provide an informed response to these sanctions. Currently, PSSI is eagerly awaiting the necessary documentation to take appropriate action on the matter.
In conclusion, PSSI’s acknowledgment of the FIFA sanctions and their commitment to addressing the issue once the reports are received demonstrates the association’s adherence to the rules and regulations governing international football. The public will await further developments as PSSI provides updates on the situation.
