Coach Shin Tae-yong has announced the selection of 28 players set to compete in the upcoming FIFA Match Day in March 2021. The Indonesian national team is scheduled to take on Burundi on March 25 and 28 at Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi.
The 28 chosen players will convene in Jakarta beginning March 20. Among the selected roster are players currently active in foreign leagues, including Asnawi Mangkualam (Jeongnam Dragons), Pratama Arhan (Tokyo Verdy), Jordi Amat (Johor Darul Ta’zim), Shayne Pattynama (Viking FK), and Saddil Ramdani (Sabah FC).
Notably, Persija Jakarta boasts the highest number of players called up with six, followed by PSM Makassar with four, and Persib Bandung with three. Of particular significance is the return of Riko Simanjuntak to the Indonesian national team, having last been called up in 2019. In addition, Coach Shin Tae-yong has also extended the call to several players from the Indonesian U-20 team, including Muhammad Ferrar, Doni Tri Pamungkas, and Daffa Fasya.
At present, Burundi holds the 141st position in the FIFA rankings, while Indonesia stands at 151st. Securing two victories in this event would result in an elevation of Indonesia’s FIFA ranking in the next edition.
