The head coach of the U-20 team of Indonesia, Shin Tae-yong, has announced the selection of 30 players for a training camp in preparation for the 2023 AFC U-20 Cup. The camp is scheduled to be held in Jakarta from February 1 to 28.
Indonesia has been placed in Group A alongside the host country, Uzbekistan, as well as Iraq and Syria for the upcoming AFC U-20 Cup.
Mochamad Iriawan, the Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), has expressed confidence in the squad chosen by Shin Tae-yong, stating, “We are optimistic about achieving the best results in the upcoming AFC U-20 Cup 2023. This tournament will also be an important measure of our preparations for the upcoming U-20 World Cup.”
The roster of selected players includes several new talents, such as Brandon Scheunemann from PSIS, Hugo Samir from Persis, and Ahmad Raia from Persik. Additionally, players from last year’s U-16 team, Arkhan Kaka from Persis and Sulthan Zaky from PSM, have also been called up.
“We expect the participants of the training camp and the AFC U-20 Cup 2023 to showcase their maximum abilities, hard work, focus, and discipline,” added Iwan Bule, a respectful moniker for Iriawan.
In their first match, Indonesia will compete against Iraq on March 1, followed by a match against Syria on March 4, and a challenge against the host country, Uzbekistan, on March 7.
“During the training camp, PSSI has arranged several friendly matches for the U-20 team of Indonesia. Given the caliber of the teams in Group A of the AFC U-20 Cup, this preparation is crucial,” stated Technical Director Indra Sjafri.
