After the conclusion of the 2023/2024 competition season, the coach of Persija Jakarta, Thomas Doll, has addressed the speculation surrounding his future at the club. The German coach, who led the team throughout the 34-week season, expressed his thoughts on the matter in light of the team’s performance and his existing contract with the club.
Despite carrying the jargon “To The Next Level,” Persija Jakarta’s performance in the 2023/2024 season was deemed inconsistent as they finished in 8th place in the final standings with 48 points. This raised questions about Thomas Doll’s role as the coach, given that he is contracted to lead the Kemayoran Tigers until 2025, with one more year remaining.
In response to the uncertainties surrounding his fate at Persija Jakarta, Doll maintained that he is unable to disclose any information at the moment. He emphasized that any decision pertaining to his future at the club will be the result of serious discussions with the board of directors. “Now is not a good moment to talk about that,” he stated, following the match between Persija Jakarta and PSIS Semarang.
Despite the ambiguity surrounding his continuation as the coach, Doll expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance in the final match of the season. Persija Jakarta emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over PSIS Semarang. Doll conveyed his desire for the players to take a well-deserved rest and savor their time together before regrouping for the upcoming season’s preparations.
“Now we want to rest first, I will tell you when it’s time to get together. The point is we are happy to have ended this season, the important thing is to rest first,” Doll asserted, affirming the team’s need for a break before gearing up for the next season.
As the fate of Thomas Doll at Persija Jakarta remains uncertain, the upcoming discussions with the board of directors will shed light on the plans for the club in the subsequent season. Doll’s tenure as the coach and the future direction of the team will be determined through careful deliberation and strategic decision-making by the club’s leadership.
