Persija Jakarta, a prominent football club in Indonesia, has recently provided an update on the status of their newly acquired foreign player, Gustavo Almeida. Regrettably, following an injury sustained during his debut match in November 2023, the striker will be unable to join the team until February 2024.
Expectations for Gustavo’s impact on the team have been substantial, with aspirations for him to bring a revitalizing dynamic to the squad. However, due to his injury, these aspirations will need to be put on hold for the time being.
Coach Thomas Doll, during a press conference at Patriot Chandrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi, conveyed his disappointment at the setback, expressing, “I am pleased that Gustavo (Almeida) has arrived, but he is presently injured.”
Despite the setback, there is some positive news. Following an extended period of recuperation, Gustavo Almeida’s condition is displaying signs of improvement. Nevertheless, he will not be able to participate in the upcoming match against PSS Sleman on December 16, 2023.
Looking forward, it has been disclosed that Almeida will commence his training with the team in January 2024, with the expectation that he will be ready to participate in February. Coach Thomas Doll confirmed this, stating, “As such, Gustavo (Almeida) will only participate (fully with the team) in February 2024. However, he will commence training in January.”
The absence of Almeida will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s tactics and starting lineup for upcoming matches. Coach Doll acknowledged this, noting that the focus may need to shift to strengthening other areas of the team to compensate for the absence in the attacking ranks.
Despite the setback, supporters of Persija Jakarta hold optimism for Gustavo Almeida’s return in 2024, as the team readies to rally behind their new acquisition and continue their pursuit of success on the field.
