Despite the team’s 2-1 loss to Persebaya, all attention focused on Bambang, who delivered a heartfelt farewell speech at the conclusion of the match.
Quoting a poignant saying, Bambang expressed, “Wise people say: ‘Real men never cry, but their hearts bleed.’ Tonight, please allow me to be a real man; I will not say much, it’s enough that my heart bleeds.”

Notably, he was the top goalscorer for Persija in 1999 and 2000, and played a pivotal role in securing the Liga Indonesia title for the club in 2001, earning recognition as the season’s best player.
His talents were not limited to Indonesia, as he also experienced a successful period in the Malaysian Football League with Selangor FA, where he achieved multiple titles and accolades, solidifying his status as a premier Asian player.
Beyond his achievements on the field, Bambang also distinguished himself as a tireless advocate for athlete welfare and rights, advocating for the well-being of sports professionals in Indonesia and beyond.
As Bambang bids adieu to his playing days, the football fraternity and fans alike reflect on his remarkable career with admiration and appreciation for the enduring impact he has had on the sport.
Bambang’s farewell marks the end of an era, and as he embarks on a new chapter, his influence on the world of football will undoubtedly endure for years to come.
