The much-anticipated match between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta is set to occur in the 28th week of Liga 1 2023/2024 at the Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA). However, there is a possibility that the match on Saturday, March 8, 2024, may have to proceed without any spectators present.
This unforeseen circumstance arose due to a sanction imposed on Persib by the PSSI Disciplinary Commission (Komdis). According to a letter dated Friday, March 1, 2024, with reference number 191/L1/SK/KD-PSSI/III/2024, Persib is prohibited from hosting a match with spectators for one game.
The implications of this ruling are significant, given that the 28th week of Liga 1 2023/2024 features the prestigious showdown between Persib and Persija Jakarta. However, all hope is not lost, as the decision to play the match without spectators against Persija still leaves some room for Maung Bandung supporters to attend. The host team has the option to file an appeal.
Sabina Badminton, the Public Relations (PR) representative of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), has stated that the verdict is not yet final. “Yes, it is true that Persib’s match might take place without spectators. However, the host still has the opportunity to file an appeal,” said Sabina in a statement released on Monday, March 4, 2024.
While the possibility of Persib filing an appeal remains, Sabina acknowledged that as of now there is no definitive information on whether the club intends to pursue this course of action. “We have not received further information regarding the appeal,” Sabina added.
There is still a chance for Persib to play the match against Persija with the fervent support of Bobotoh and Viking. However, the ultimate decision on whether spectators will be allowed to attend will hinge on the determination of the PSSI Appeal Committee (Komding).
The backdrop to this development is the unrest that ensued during the Persib vs PSIS Semarang match on February 27, 2024, which led to the sanction on Persib Bandung. An altercation took place outside the stadium following the match, prompting the disciplinary action.
The situation continues to unfold, and all stakeholders are awaiting the final decision on whether spectators will be permitted at the highly anticipated Persib vs Persija clash. The prospect of fans being able to attend adds an extra layer of excitement to this already thrilling encounter.
