“Tragedy at Soccer Match Sparks Outrage”

The recent and tragic passing of a Persija Jakarta supporter at the hands of a group of Persib Bandung supporters prior to a soccer match on Sunday has sparked outrage from officials, fellow supporters, and online users.

Haringga Sirila, 23, was fatally assaulted near the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium in Bandung, West Java. Reports indicate that Haringga was pursued and brutally attacked by a group of young men identified as Persib supporters. This unprovoked assault involved physical blows, kicks to the head, and the use of wooden planks and rocks.

At least five individuals suspected of involvement in the incident have been placed under police arrest.

The longstanding and intense rivalry between Persib and Persija has consistently resulted in confrontations, leading to injuries and even fatalities among their respective supporters.

Governor Ridwan Kamil of West Java expressed his condolences over Haringga’s passing on his Instagram account, denouncing the abhorrent actions of the assailants and extending his support to the victim’s loved ones.

Governor Anies Baswedan of Jakarta also conveyed his profound grief and outrage over the tragic occurrence through social media. He urged Persija supporters to refrain from retaliating with further acts of violence.

The Bandung Supporter Alliance likewise denounced the incident and urged all soccer enthusiasts to bring an end to violence stemming from team rivalries.

Online, the hashtag #RIPHaringga gained traction on Twitter, reflecting the indignation and sorrow of online users in response to Haringga’s premature demise.

Following this grievous loss, activist and family psychologist Alissa Wahid called for stricter sanctions against the implicated club and its supporters to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The untimely passing of Haringga Sirila serves as a poignant reminder of the serious repercussions of violence associated with sports, prompting all stakeholders to strive for a more secure and respectful environment within the soccer community.
