It has been revealed by the coach of Persija Jakarta, Thomas Doll, that the determination of foreign players for the imminent Liga 1 season is not solely within his jurisdiction, but is the responsibility of the management team. While Doll has been in communication with potential foreign players and has received recommendations, the final decision ultimately rests with the club’s management.
Emphasizing the importance of an early arrival of foreign players to ensure thorough preparation for the 2022-2023 Indonesian League 1 season, Doll has stressed the urgency of expediting the recruitment process. With U-23 and U-19 players engaged in national team activities, the team is presently training with a limited squad.
The 56-year-old coach has underscored the necessity of recruiting foreign players to strengthen the team in crucial positions such as central defense, midfield, and attack. Doll has emphasized the significance of infusing new talent and quality into the team, citing the requirement for a central defender, a midfielder capable of playing in the number eight role, and an attacker.
At present, Persija Jakarta has only secured one foreign player slot, with Makan Konate being retained by the management. The club is committed to elevating its position in Liga 1 after finishing in eighth place in the preceding season. The appointment of Thomas Doll is a part of the club’s strategy to enhance the overall quality and performance of the team.
It is evident that the forthcoming season holds significant promise for Persija Jakarta as they strive to make a notable comeback in Indonesian football. With the coaching expertise of Thomas Doll and the recruitment of foreign players under the careful consideration of the management, the club is poised for a resurgence in Liga 1. The decision to bring in foreign talent is a strategic move aimed at reinforcing the team and fortifying their competitive edge in the upcoming season.
