The much-anticipated encounter between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta may still permit spectators to attend, despite initial apprehensions. The upcoming 28th week of the 2023/2024 Liga 1 match at the Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA) on Saturday, March 8, 2024, faced the possibility of being conducted without fans due to a sanction levied against Persib Bandung.
On Friday, March 1, 2024, the PSSI Disciplinary Commission (Komdis) issued a letter with the number 191/L1/SK/KD-PSSl/III/2024, prohibiting Persib Bandung from hosting matches with spectators for one game, specifically targeting the 28th week of the 2023/2024 Liga 1, coinciding with the esteemed match against Persija Jakarta.
Despite this setback, Persib Bandung may still appeal the decision and potentially welcome their supporters to the game. Sabina Badminton, the Public Relations (PR) of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), confirmed that the verdict was not yet final and that the host team still had the option to file an appeal.
“While it is true that Persib’s match may initially be played without spectators, the situation could still change as the host may file an appeal,” stated Sabina in a recent announcement on Monday, March 4, 2024.
However, Sabrina added that as of now, there has been no confirmation regarding whether Persib Bandung intends to pursue an appeal. The decision to grant permission for spectators to attend the match alongside the support of Bobotoh and Viking supporters will ultimately depend on the verdict of the PSSI Appeal Committee (Komding).
The initial sanction imposed on Persib Bandung stemmed from the disturbances that took place during their match against PSIS Semarang on February 27, 2024. Following the game, a riot ensued outside the stadium, leading to the subsequent punishment from the PSSI Disciplinary Commission.
As the appeal process unfolds, the fate of the highly anticipated match between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta hangs in the balance. Nevertheless, the possibility of fans being able to witness the rivalry game live still remains a hopeful prospect for both teams and football enthusiasts.
