Former Persija Jakarta striker Marko Simic has prevailed in a legal dispute with the club, as FIFA has ruled in his favor. Following his departure from Persija amidst allegations of unpaid wages, the Croatian striker pursued the matter through the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber, which ultimately mandated Persija to remunerate Simic with a total of 20.7 billion Rupiahs.
Simic, who enjoyed a successful tenure with Persija, tallying 73 goals in 111 games and contributing to the team’s clinching of the 2018 Liga 1 Indonesia title, asserted that the club had neglected to compensate him during the COVID-19 pandemic from May 2020 to April 2022. Consequently, the ongoing dispute led to Simic’s sidelining towards the conclusion of the 2021/22 season.
The resolution encompasses not only Simic’s outstanding wages, but also encompasses bonuses for goals and assists, accommodation and travel reimbursements, as well as compensation for the breach of his contract. FIFA’s ruling has mandated Persija to settle the outstanding amount with Simic within 45 days; failure to do so shall result in the club facing a registration ban in the forthcoming transfer window.
The ban would impede Persija from acquiring new players, presenting a formidable obstacle to the team’s roster planning and recruitment strategies. The club’s management has refrained from providing commentary on the matter, leaving numerous fans and observers anticipating further developments in the case.
Ultimately, the legal clash between Persija and their former striker has culminated in a substantial settlement in favor of Marko Simic. This case serves as a testament to the significance of equitable compensation and contractual agreements in professional football.
