In a recent statement, the President of Persija Jakarta, Mohamad Prapanca, officially announced that the football club will not be participating in the 2024/2025 ASEAN Club Championship (ACC). Despite receiving an invitation due to their status as runners-up in Liga 1 2022/2023, Persija has opted to prioritize the refinement of their performance for the upcoming season.
Prapanca explained that this decision was reached after thorough deliberation regarding the team’s priorities. The management deems it imperative for the Kemayoran Tigers to concentrate on enhancing their performance for the 2024/2025 season and preparing for domestic tournaments that are expected to overlap with the ACC schedule.
After a season characterized by inconsistent results in Liga 1 2023/2024, Persija is resolute in making the forthcoming season a time of resurgence, aiming for greater accomplishments. Consequently, the club’s leadership has chosen to abstain from the ACC to ensure that the team’s focus remains unwavering as they enter the new season.
Though some fans may be disappointed by Persija’s decision to withdraw from the ACC, it is crucial to acknowledge that as the League 1 champions, they are entitled to participate in the qualifying phase of the Asian Champions League in accordance with AFC regulations. Therefore, if Persija were to triumph in Liga 1 2024/2025, they would earn the opportunity to partake in the 2025/2026 Asian Champions League.
This strategic decision underscores Persija’s dedication to prioritizing their domestic performance and fortifying their position in national competitions. By utilizing the upcoming season to amplify their skills and strive for excellence, the club aims to establish themselves as formidable contenders in both regional and international tournaments.
While international fans of Persija may need to wait a while longer to witness the Kemayoran Tigers in action on the ASEAN stage, the club’s decision reflects a long-term strategy aimed at elevating their competitive standing and bringing honor to their supporters.
As the 2024/2025 football season approaches, all attention will be on Persija Jakarta as they embark on their pursuit of success in Liga 1 and potentially, on the international stage in the Asian Champions League. With a devoted fanbase and a determined team, Persija’s journey is poised to be one of ambition, perseverance, and triumph.
