Persija Jakarta Secures Victory in Liga 1 Championship

Persija Jakarta emerged as the victors in the final match held at the Bung Karno main stadium, securing the Liga 1 championship title, mirroring their win 17 years ago in 2001.

During the intense match, striker Marko Simic netted two goals for Persija in the 17th minute through a penalty kick and again in the 59th minute, solidifying their lead. Mitra Kukar managed to score a goal in the 88th minute through Aldino Herdianto’s kick. Consequently, Persija topped the League 1 final standings with 62 points, just one point ahead of PSM Makassar.

In a separate match at the Andi Mattalata Stadium in Makassar, PSM dominated PSMS Medan with a 5-1 victory. Persija’s coach, Stefano “Teco” Cugurra, attributed his team’s success in the 2018 Indonesian League 1 to their consistent performance and unwavering mentality.

According to Teco, the entire Persija team exhibited exceptional quality and mental fortitude, overcoming various challenges throughout the season. Their steadfast dedication ultimately led them to secure the championship trophy. Teco expressed his gratitude to the club for entrusting him with the responsibility to train this team after confirming their victory in the Indonesian League 1.

The Brazilian coach praised his team’s strong performance from the start of the 2018 final match. Earlier in the year, Persija emerged triumphant in the Boost Sports Super Fix 2018 international tournament in Malaysia, as well as the 2018 Presidential Cup national pre-season tournament. These victories, along with their success in the League 1 championship, showcased Persija’s remarkable record throughout 2018.

Teco recounted the team’s challenging journey, having to compete in various locations such as Bantul, Bekasi, Cikarang, and Bogor in addition to the Bung Karno stadium. Despite the challenges, the players maintained a consistent level of performance throughout the season.

Captain Ismed Sofyan praised the players’ exceptional mentality, acknowledging the unwavering support from the management and fans, particularly the Jakmania supporters. “The players’ mentality has been extraordinary. I extend my gratitude to everyone, the management, and our dedicated Jakmania supporters,” remarked the 39-year-old Sofyan.

The impressive victory of Persija Jakarta in the Liga 1 championship is a testament to the team’s unwavering determination, skill, and unyielding spirit.
