Renowned coach Tavares, who boasts an impressive coaching history with two stints as Vietnam’s national team head coach and experience with top clubs in Asia such as Al Hilal FC, Chongqing Lifan, and Sepahan, has assumed a new role as the head coach of Persija Jakarta. At 63 years old, Tavares brings a wealth of experience to the struggling team, aiming to lead them to victory and success in the league.

In a formal statement, Tavares expressed his enthusiasm about joining Persija, conveying his determination to turn the team’s fortunes around. Acknowledging the team’s difficult season, he articulated his goal to bring them to a winning position.

Persija Jakarta, the defending titleholder in Liga One, has faced a challenging season, currently ranking 14th in the 18-team league and trailing 28 points behind the league leaders Bali United. With their recent 1-0 loss to Borneo FC, the team is gearing up to face Persela Lamongan in their upcoming match on Wednesday.

The team’s 2019 AFC Cup journey concluded during the group stage, adding to the disappointing season for the club.

Tavares’ appointment follows the previous tenures of Ivan Kolev and Julio Banuelos, making him the third head coach for Persija Jakarta in the 2019 season. His vast knowledge and experience in coaching various teams and leading them to success bring a glimmer of hope to the struggling club.

Tavares’ arrival brings a sense of renewed optimism to Persija Jakarta, and fans are eager to see how his leadership will impact the team’s performance. As the season progresses, all eyes are on Tavares as he takes charge and strives to guide the team to victory and resurgence.
