The football community in Jakarta is abuzz with excitement following the official announcement of Persija Jakarta’s signing of Oliver Saludares Bias, a 22-year-old standout from the Philippines’ national team. Bias, who is on loan from FK Pribram, brings an impressive set of skills and experience to the team for a one-year loan basis.
Coach Thomas Doll, a native of Germany, warmly welcomed Bias and expressed confidence in the significant contribution the young player will make to the team’s quality. Despite not having prior knowledge of Bias, Coach Thomas was pleased to learn about the positive feedback on the player from his previous stint with the RB Leipzig youth team. The coach highlighted Bias’ speed and prowess in one-on-one duels, asserting that the newcomer possesses the qualities that the team greatly values.
Bias has a noteworthy history, having been with the Leipzig youth team from 2015 to 2020, and playing for various clubs such as Optik Rathenow, FC Nitra, Azkals Development Team, Chiangmai United, and FK Pribram. With 83 appearances, seven goals, and 11 assists in both junior and senior level competitions, Bias has made a significant impact in his career.
In addition to representing Germany, Bias has also played for the Philippines in various age groups such as U-15, U-16, and U-17, as well as the U-23 national team. With an impressive record of 11 appearances and two assists for the national team, Bias has demonstrated his capabilities on the international stage.
With the addition of Bias to their roster, Persija now boasts a total of five foreign players, including Marko Simic, Ondrej Kudela, Ryo Matsumura, and Maciej Gajos, along with another talented player from Southeast Asia. Despite reaching the maximum quota for foreign players as stipulated by league regulations, namely PT LIB, Persija still has the option to bring in one more foreign player to further strengthen their lineup.
