The U-20 Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, recently delivered a statement concerning the incomplete squad preparation for the U-20 Asian Cup and the 2023 U-20 World Cup. In particular, he drew attention to the absence of three players—Marselino Ferdinand, Muhammad Ferrari, and Ronaldo Kwateh—from the Garuda Nusantara squad.
While Ronaldo Kwateh is expected to join the national team after fulfilling his club duties in Turkey, there is uncertainty regarding the inclusion of the other two players. As stated by Shin Tae-yong, the situation is particularly unjust in the case of Muhammad Ferrari, as all other clubs have released their players for national team duty, with the exception of Persija Jakarta.
Shin Tae-yong underscored the absence of a specific national team regulation governing player releases, which has led to an inequitable situation for Ferrari. He also expressed his hope for Ferrari to be released promptly in order to avoid potential protests from other clubs and to ensure the completeness of the national team.
Moreover, the South Korean coach has conveyed his concerns to the players, emphasizing the importance of preventing such issues in the future and urging them to comply with national team commitments. It is evident that the coach is resolute in addressing the current situation and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
In light of these developments, it is imperative for all involved parties to reach a resolution that upholds fairness and ensures the participation of all eligible players in the national team. With the U-20 Asian Cup and the 2023 U-20 World Cup on the horizon, the unity and cooperation of clubs, players, and national team officials are crucial for the success of Indonesian football on the international stage.
