After more than two decades of avidly following football, I was granted the exceptional opportunity of attending a match from the prestigious “lounge” of the Bung Karno Main Stadium.
It was recently confirmed by Persija Jakarta that they will return to their home ground at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta for the 2023-2024 BRI League 1 season. This encouraging news was announced just before their inaugural match of the season against PSM Makassar on Monday evening.
Following a period of renovations at the GBK Stadium, Persija temporarily made the Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium in Bekasi, West Java their home. However, the allure of playing at the largest football stadium in the country was undeniable. Not only does it boast a greater capacity, but Persija’s management can also leverage the unmatched amenities of SUGBK compared to other stadiums in Indonesia.
One of these amenities is a lounge situated on the west side of SUGBK stadium, reminiscent of those found in major team stadiums in Europe. Despite their hefty price of IDR 1 million, or approximately IDR 1,061,177 including taxes and ticketing administration, tickets for the lounge tribune sold out swiftly, making it the most expensive ticket in the Indonesian professional competition.
So, what was the experience like watching the match from the SUGBK lounge stand?
It all commenced with an invitation that I was fortunate enough to receive, accompanied by unique tickets that did not require scanning due to the absence of barcodes. The ticket also specified the dress code for entry into the lounge – formal attire, trousers, and shoes.
Upon entering the room, a refreshing atmosphere from the air conditioning greeted me. The royal box room led me to the tribune lounge, where the facilities were truly impressive. From snack tables to attentive catering staff who ensured a constant supply of food and drinks, it felt akin to being in a five-star hotel – except for the resonating chants and cheers of the fans beyond the walls, reminding me that I was still in a football stadium.
The view from the grandstand lounge was truly breathtaking, with no obstructions impeding the sight of the field. Through the glass-rail fence in front of the tribune lounge, I had a clear view of both sides of the stands, teeming with the passionate supporters of Persija, creating an atmosphere that encapsulated the spirit of the match perfectly.
The comfortable seating arrangements further enhanced the overall experience, with padded seats reminiscent of those in a movie theater and soft foam covering the armrests.
Undoubtedly, it was a luxury to witness the game, as evidenced by the presence of not only Persija’s president and main director, but also officials from PSM Makassar, the DKI Jakarta DPRD Chairman, and even foreign players from Persija who were not taking part in the game.
In conclusion, the experience of watching the game from the SUGBK lounge stands is an exceptional privilege not readily available to all. It was unquestionably a memorable and unforgettable opportunity that I was fortunate to savor.
