Two footballers hailing from Persija Jakarta, Witan Sulaeman and Rizki Ridho, have abstained from answering the national team’s summons to the training camp ahead of the FIFA Matchday, which is set to take place on June 5. Despite their team not currently participating in any competition, both players have refrained from joining the training camp. In response to their absence, Persija coach, Thomas Doll, has provided a rationale for their non-attendance.
Doll has explained that Witan and Ridho have only been able to train with the team for a week due to their FIFA Matchday commitments. It is anticipated that they will rejoin the team post their match against Argentina. Accordingly, it is regarded as advantageous for the two players to undergo training alongside their peers at Sawangan. This will encompass their participation in tactical and physical training sessions, with particular emphasis on Ridho’s adjustment to his new environment.
Doll has acknowledged the significance of the valuable experience the upcoming match against Argentina will offer the Indonesian national team players. As a result, he is prepared to release his players so they may partake in the training camp.
The training camp is currently being conducted in Surabaya, where Elkan Baggott has recently joined 15 other players who had already commenced their practice sessions.
The players who have already reported to the training center include Sandy Walsh, Andy Setyo, Rafael Struick, Ivar Jenner, Syahrul Trisna, Dendy Sulistyawan, Fachruddin Aryanto, Dimas Drajad, Stefano Lilipaly, Ernando Ari, Marselino Ferdinand, Ricky Kambuaya, Rachmat Irianto, Marc Klok, and Edo Febriansyah.
Throughout the June edition of the FIFA Matchday, the national team is slated to compete in two matches against Palestine and Argentina. The initial match is scheduled for June 14 in Surabaya, followed by the subsequent game against Argentina on June 19 in Jakarta.
The preparations of the Indonesian national team and its players for an exciting period of international football is commendable. The evident commitment and dedication of the players as they gear up to represent their country on the global stage is laudable. With the backing of their coaches and fellow teammates, the national team is well-positioned to deliver an impressive performance during the FIFA Matchday.
