The Untold Side of the Recent GBK Stadium Event

The Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, which hosted the grand event for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), has recently been at the center of controversy regarding the condition of its main field. Reports of significant damage to the grass field during the event were swiftly refuted by Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, the Director of the GBK Complex Management.

In an official statement, Rakhmadi clarified that the grass field remained in good condition and well-maintained even after the PDIP’s event. He emphasized that the stadium management consistently applies high-standard operating procedures and utilizes world-class base covers to protect the field during events. Despite circulating pictures and narratives suggesting damage to the field, Rakhmadi explained that these were taken at night after the event during the clearing-up process.

He further assured the public that any damage to the grass was promptly addressed by the stadium management. The football match between Persija Jakarta and PSM Makassar, scheduled for July 2, 2023, will proceed as planned following communication between the GBK management and relevant football associations.

Regarding speculation that the PDIP event evaluation results recommended relocating future matches to the Bung Karno Madya Stadium, Rakhmadi mentioned that internal discussions are ongoing to consider all possibilities, reflecting a proactive stance to ensure the quality and integrity of their facilities.

Looking ahead, the upcoming 77th Bhayangkara Anniversary celebration by the National Police on July 1, 2023, will be the next major event hosted at the GBK main stadium.

The recent incident sheds light on the meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality management practices exhibited by the GBK Complex management. This reaffirms the stadium’s position as a premier venue for hosting significant events and upholding the standard of excellence in stadium facilities.
