“Persija Defender Otavio Dutra Seeks Raise Due to Additional Translator Role: Living the Dream”

Defender Otavio Dutra, a member of the Indonesian league club Persija Jakarta, has assumed an unforeseen role as a translator for the team and is now making a request for increased compensation.

A recent Instagram post from @persija provided a glimpse behind the scenes of a training session led by new coach Angelo Alessio, with Dutra translating the coach’s instructions for the players. Following this, Dutra humorously suggested in the comment section that his new responsibilities as a translator should come with a raise, addressing both Alessio and Persija.

When asked about his comment, Dutra clarified that it was made in jest, emphasizing his willingness to assist foreign coaches wherever he may play. With his fluency in Indonesian after residing in Indonesia since 2011, Dutra has been able to aid coaches and players from various countries.

As Persija’s roster for the upcoming 2021 season includes several foreign players, Dutra has been providing translation assistance to individuals such as Marco Motta from Italy and Yann Motta from Brazil. Alongside the light-hearted aspect of his additional role, Dutra also shared that being a translator has led to some amusing situations, including talking in his sleep and entertaining interactions with his wife.

Dutra’s request for increased compensation due to his added responsibilities highlights the often overlooked roles that athletes undertake within their teams. As athletes are increasingly expected to exceed the typical expectations of playing their sport, it is crucial for clubs to acknowledge and fairly compensate them.

Although the situation began as a playful remark on social media, it underscores the significance of the various roles players may assume within their teams. As the line between on-field and off-field responsibilities continues to blur, it is imperative for clubs and organizations to assess and compensate their players not only for their athletic prowess, but also for the diverse contributions they make to the team.
