The Future of Persib vs Persija Match Attendance Hangs in the Balance

The much-anticipated fixture between Persib Bandung and Persija Jakarta is scheduled to take place in the 28th week of Liga 1 2023/2024 at the Bandung Lautan Api Stadium (GBLA). However, there is a looming possibility that the match on Saturday, March 8, 2024, may have to proceed without the presence of spectators.

This challenging situation has arisen due to a sanction imposed on Maung Bandung by the PSSI Disciplinary Commission (Komdis). In a letter dated Friday, March 1, 2024, numbered 191/L1/SK/KD-PSSl/III/2024, Persib has been prohibited from hosting matches with spectators for a single game.

The imposed sanctions are specifically targeted at the 28th week of Liga 1 2023/2024, raising concerns as this week features a highly prestigious match against Persija Jakarta.

Despite the situation, there is still a possibility for the attendance of Maung Bandung supporters at the match against Persija. The host club has the option to appeal this decision.

Sabina Badminton, the Public Relations (PR) representative of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), emphasized that the verdict is not final. “Yes, it is true that Persib’s match may proceed without spectators. However, the host still has the opportunity to file an appeal,” she stated in a release made on Monday, March 4, 2024.

While there is the possibility of Persib filing an appeal, Sabrina has acknowledged that no information has been received to date regarding their intentions to do so. “We have not received any further information regarding the appeal,” she confirmed.

The chances of Persib being able to play the match against Persija with the unwavering support of Bobotoh and Viking remain uncertain. The ultimate decision regarding the granting of permission will be subject to the ruling of the PSSI Appeal Committee (Komding).

It is important to note that Persib Bandung incurred the sanction of playing without spectators following the disturbances that took place during the Persib vs PSIS Semarang match on February 27, 2024, leading to this punitive measure being imposed.

As the date of the highly-anticipated match draws nearer, all eyes will be on the developments surrounding Persib’s potential appeal and the final decision of the PSSI Appeal Committee. The footballing community eagerly awaits to see whether this prestigious encounter will be able to be enjoyed by the passionate and loyal supporters of both Persib and Persija.
