PUNE: FC Pune City has officially announced the signing of Argentine midfielder Robertino Pugliara, aiming to enhance their squad for the forthcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL). Pugliara represents the fifth South American addition to the team, following in the footsteps of Emiliano Alfaro, Marcelinho, Diego Carlos, and Jonatan Lucca.
Beginning his football journey at San Lorenzo, Pugliara subsequently joined Talleres de Cordoba for a two-year period. However, a significant portion of his career has been spent in Indonesia, where he has played for prominent clubs including Persija Jakarta, Persiba Balikpapan, PSM Makassar, Persib Bandung, and Persipura Jayapura. Notably, during his tenure with Persija Jakarta, he contributed to the team’s triumph in the Trofeo Persija for two consecutive years in 2011 and 2012.
Pugliara’s experience in international competitions is commendable, as he played against Bengaluru FC in the AFC Cup while representing Persipura Jayapura. His remarkable performance, which included scoring two goals in a crucial match against Bengaluru in 2015, was pivotal for his team’s success.
Upon finalizing his contract with FC Pune City, Pugliara expressed his enthusiasm regarding this new chapter of his career, stating, “I am turning a new page in my career. Having played in Indonesia for most of my career, adapting to a new culture and style will be a challenge I will relish. I have witnessed the talent of several top Indian players during my AFC matches and was greatly impressed by their quality.
