Selangor FC clinched the championship title in the RCTI Premium Sports International Tournament after a thrilling match at the Jakarta International Stadium, where they defeated Persija Jakarta with a narrow 1-0 victory.
From the onset, Selangor exhibited an aggressive playing style, resulting in an early advantage in the 2nd minute when Alvin Fortes scored a powerful header, breaking through Persija’s defense and giving his team the lead.
Despite their best efforts, Persija Jakarta, also known as the Macan Kemayoran, found it difficult to penetrate the formidable defense of their opponents from Liga Super Malaysia, largely due to the skilled development coaching of Ferdiansyah.
The first half of the game presented another opportunity for Selangor in the 41st minute, with a promising free kick taken by Yohandry Orozco. Throughout the remainder of the half, the game remained intense, and Persija nearly equalized with a long-range shot by Resa Aditya, which unfortunately did not find its mark.
At the end of the first half, Selangor maintained a 1-0 advantage.
Following the halftime interval, Persija implemented a more aggressive strategy to level the score. However, their offensive moves were predictable and easily thwarted by the Selangor defense. On the other hand, Selangor relied on swift counterattacks to maintain their lead. Despite opportunities for both teams, no additional goals were scored by the 70th minute. Subsequently, Selangor’s Orozco had a chance in the 80th minute, but his shot was skillfully saved by Persija’s goalkeeper, Cahya Supriadi.
As the game progressed, unfortunate circumstances arose when fans in the stands ignited flares, leading to a significant reduction in visibility. Consequently, the match was halted in the 86th minute, ultimately resulting in the referee’s decision to conclude the game due to the thick smoke shrouding the stadium.
In light of these events, Selangor emerged triumphant in the RCTI Premium Sports International Tournament, securing the title with their narrow victory over Persija. Their early goal and unwavering defense proved to be the deciding factors in securing the tournament victory.
